LOS ANGELES (November 13, 2012) — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) announces a significant upswing in the usage of its CP Reporting Hotline, which saw record reporting volumes during the months of September and October.

ASACP’s CP Reporting Hotline currently averages 8,163 monthly reports so far for 2012, with a sharp increase noted in September, which registered 16,927 reports; and in October, which saw 19,426 total reports.

Contrast that amount with the 4,890 average monthly reports received by the hotline in 2011.

“The ASACP in its 16 year history has never experienced such high reporting volume,” ASACP Executive Director Tim Henning stated. “The data reveals that there is not only a continued need for the services provided by ASACP, but that this need is growing.”

ASACP’s CP Reporting Hotline takes in raw reports of questionable material from the global Internet community, concerned parents, and other stakeholders. After careful review, confirmed “Red Flag” reports of illegal child pornography are then forwarded to relevant law enforcement agencies around the world.

The association’s efforts have assisted in the closure of a number of high-profile CP websites and the disruption of other illegal operations involving exploitation of children on the Internet.

ASACP’s CP Reporting Hotline is supported by The ASACP Foundation, sister organization to Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection, which also finances the ongoing development and operation of the Restricted To Adults (RTA) website labeling program (www.rtalabel.org). This freely available and widely used technology enables all content filtering software to better protect minors or other Internet viewers from accidental exposure to age-inappropriate materials.
