ASACP Honors Founder and Supporters at XBIZ Awards

Los Angeles, CA (February 12, 2008) – The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) honored Founder Alec Helmy with its Visionary Award and presented Fiona Patten and Robbie Swan of The Eros Association with its annual Service Recognition Award on February 7th at the XBIZ Awards.

The award ceremony took place at the Highlands in Hollywood and was a part of the XBIZ Hollywood ’07 Conference. XBIZ is a business resource site for the adult web industry.

Ever since ASACP began more than 10 years ago, its success has depended on the contributions of its generous sponsors and members, its dedicated advisory council, and many other people who have volunteered valuable time and resources because they support ASACP’s mission of child protection. Each year, ASACP’s Service Recognition Award is presented to the person whose consistent contributions have helped make the organization’s work possible.

This year, ASACP recognized the work of two people and an organization that has been incredibly helpful to ASACP. Fiona Patten and Robbie Swan and The Eros Association have been tireless advocates of the RTA “Restricted to Adults” Website Label in Australia. The Eros Association is Australia`s peak adult industry group, it was established in 1992 to unite the various wings of the industry and to lobby governments to establish logical perspectives on love and sex. Eros has supported RTA since it was launched and has taken RTA’s effectiveness in protecting children from viewing age-inappropriate to an international level.

ASACP’s CEO Joan Irvine presented the award to Patten who was on hand to accept the award on behalf of Eros.

“Eros has been essential in assisting ASACP in its international outreach,” stated Irvine. “In addition to their support of RTA they welcomed ASACP to Australia in 2007. They coordinated my meetings with legislators and arranged for me to be one of the keynote speakers at Adultex.”

ASACP also presented XBIZ President Alec Helmy with its first ever “Visionary Award” in appreciation of his dedication to protecting children and his vision to unite others in the same mission by creating the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection. ASACP’s Director of Technology and Compliance, Tim Henning, presented the award.

“As the first ASACP employee, I have truly seen first hand how much ASACP has grown and far we have come. We are now an integral part of the international fight against child pornography and have forwarded thousands of reports of CP to law enforcement,” stated Henning. “We wanted to honor Helmy for having the foresight to know that the adult industry could be a powerful force in protecting children.”

Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online. Companies and individuals interested in supporting ASACP may go to www.asacp.org for more information on how to get involved.
